Le Tatoué: why were relations between Jean Gabin and Louis de Funès strained during filming?

Reunited on the screen in the film entitled Le Tatoué, which will be broadcast on Sunday March 6, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on C8, Jean Gabin and Louis de Funès experienced a complicated shoot. Télé Star reveals to you why their relations were strained.

Released in cinemas in 1968, the movie namedThe Tattooed, realized by Denys de La Patellierewill be rebroadcast on Sunday March 6, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on C8.Worn byJohn Gabin and Louis de Funes, this feature film was a real commercial success, despite rather negative reviews when it was released in theaters. During its exploitation in the cinema, The Tattooed garnered over 3.2 million admissionsand thus ranked in 8th place at the box office out of all films released in theaters that year.

A decent score forJohn Gabinbut which was nevertheless lower than the usual results of Louis de Funès’ feature films at the time. If the chemistry between the two actors doesn’t quite work on screen, it is because a certain misunderstanding reigned between Jean Gabin andLouis de Funes during this filming of this feature film. In fact, despite their friendship, their mutual respect, as well as their good understanding during their previous collaborations on The Crossing of Paris and The Gentleman of Epsom, the two actors remained somewhat distant towards each other during the filming of this film.

The Tattooed: a disagreement between Louis de Funès and Jean Gabin

Furthermore, John Gabin and Louis de Funes had a point of disagreement when the second asked for the lights to be strong enough to highlight his eyes, which he got, while the first wanted the opposite, so as not to bring out his couperosewhich can be seen in certain scenes of the Tattooed. In addition to that, Louis de Funes had an all-consuming anxiety about his playmate, who is still considered today as one of the sacred monsters of French cinema. The star of the saga the Constable then became disproportionately demanding of one’s own gamewhich put him, as he eventually admitted, in an uncomfortable and exhausting situation.
