League Cup win over Tottenham
Havertz and own goal put Chelsea on track
Chelsea FC have the best chance of reaching the final in the English League Cup. In the semi-final first leg, the team of coach Tuchel wins against Tottenham Hotspur. The German national player Kai Havertz lays the foundation for success and a strange own goal also helps the Londoners.
Team manager Thomas Tuchel’s FC Chelsea won the semi-final first leg of the English League Cup. The Blues defeated last year’s finalists Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 (2-0) thanks to a goal from national player Kai Havertz on Wednesday evening and thus have a good chance of reaching the final for the first time since the 2014/15 season. The second leg will take place next Wednesday.
Before the game, however, there was bad news for Chelsea. As Tuchel announced in an interview, midfielder N’Golo Kante and defender Thiago Silva tested positive for the corona virus in the morning. Both players are in isolation.
In the game Havertz scored the 1-0 in the fifth minute of the game. An own goal by Ben Davies (34th) increased the lead for Chelsea – albeit extremely curious. Tanganga headed Davies in front of their own goal, the ball bounced over the line. Striker Romelu Lukaku, who was back in the starting line-up after his scandalous interview and the following pardon, almost scored 3-0 (42nd) before the break. Last week, Tuchel removed the Belgian from the squad for the league game against Liverpool (2-2) due to controversial statements. Lukaku has since apologized for his statements.
Liverpool FC had applied for a postponement of the other league cup semifinals at Arsenal due to numerous corona cases, which was confirmed on Wednesday. The match planned for Thursday will not be played until January 20th. The actual second leg on January 13th in Anfield will be the first leg. After coach Jürgen Klopp, his assistant and representative Pep Lijnders had also tested positive for the corona virus. On Tuesday, the training center was closed for the time being due to the rapid increase in suspected cases.
