The new name of the presidential party, Renaissance, definitely suits him very well. By investing Pierre Baudis in Haute-Garonne for the legislative elections, he almost managed to resurrect a tutelary figure in Toulouse politics. However, it is not the former mayor and deputy of the pink city, who died in 1997, but his grandson, who has the same first and last name. At 33, Pierre Baudis, a journalist by training who has become a communicator, therefore perpetuates the family political tradition. Because his father too, Dominique Baudis, is a former deputy and mayor of Toulouse, who died in 2014.
The investiture of Pierre Baudis in the first constituency of Haute-Garonne, that occupied by his father, was a surprise in many respects. First on a purely political level: it is one of the rare constituencies where an outgoing walking deputy has not been reinvested. Pierre Cabaré, who was elected in 2017, was dismissed by the presidential majority after being pinned for cases of alleged harassment. In 2019, his deputy and collaborator filed a complaint against him, accusing him of moral harassment and sexual assault. However, Pierre Baudis should still face him in the first round on June 12, since the outgoing wishes to stand for a second term.
But it is the choice of a candidate with such a name that surprised the most. A nepotism lawsuit was immediately brought against the young Baudis. Before this candidacy for the legislative elections, Pierre Baudis had nevertheless dabbled in politics by participating, last year, in a working group chaired by the former Minister of Justice Elisabeth Guigou. He was responsible for submitting a report on the presumption of innocence to the Ministry of Justice. A subject that is particularly close to his heart since, when he was a teenager, his father was unfairly implicated in the Patrice Alègre affair. At the time, in 2003, former prostitutes accused Dominique Baudis, then president of the Superior Audiovisual Council, of being the accomplice of the Toulouse serial killer. The media seized on the case, which continued to grow until the accusers retracted and cleared the Toulouse elected official of all suspicion.
