Leica had promised to enter the projector market at IFA 2022 and did not break its word. The very famous photography specialist took advantage of the Berlin fair to announce two Laser TVs designed in partnership with Hisense.

These are therefore two ultra-short-throw projectors offering respectively a projection diagonal of 100 inches or 80 inches and baptized Leica Cine 1 – 100 – and Leica Cine 1 – 80. The German manufacturer does not specify the distance required to obtain such dimensions, but with the projection ratio of 0.25 announced, count from 45 to 55 cm between the projector and the display surface.

Apart from this detail, their maximum brightness (2500 lumens for the largest, 2100 for the smallest) and their maximum consumption (respectively 320 W and 185 W), the two Laser TVs display the same technical characteristics.

This triple RGB laser projects Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels) with a contrast ratio of 1000:1 (up to 2,000,000:1 in HDR) and coverage of the BT2020 color space announced as superior to 95%.

Everything to replace a TV

This new generation of projectors seeking to replace our living room televisions, there is complete connectivity. The Leica Cine 1 are therefore equipped with a TV tuner, two HDMI 2.1 ports, an HDMI 2.0 port (ARC), two USB ports, and an optical output.

There are also on board two speakers of 20 Watts each, Dolby Atmos compatible.

Finally, these projectors run on VIDAA 6.0, the Hisense operating system. Funny when you know that the Hisense PX1-Pro, the latest ultra short throw projector from the Chinese company, runs on Android TV.

RDV in 2023

The Leica Cine 1 will be available in Europe from the second quarter of 2023. For the moment, no price has been announced by the German giant, but we should certainly expect a hefty bill, the brand not having used to do in low prices. The PX1-Pro is announced at 2999 euros for a lower technical sheet.
