Lenny Kravitz: Musician speaks of a mysterious meeting in East Berlin

The American musician Lenny Kravitz (55, "Fly Away") tells how he experienced the fall of the Berlin wall. In the special issue of "ZEITmagazin MANN", he announced on Tuesday, in advance: "I remember how my grandfather chopped pieces out of the wall, I still have them." Kravitz doesn't know his history as well as his grandfather, but he still visited places like Checkpoint Charlie.

Like entering a "forbidden zone"

The then 25-year-old looked at the east shortly after the historical event – and privately, as he goes on to say: "I saw a girl from the east right after the fall of the Berlin Wall (November 1989, editor's note). When I got to her home, it felt like I was entering a forbidden zone, "said the musician about his first experience in the GDR that had just dissolved.

This post-reunification encounter may have taken place during Kravitz's marriage. From 1987 to 1993 he was married to actress Lisa Bonet (52); the separation took place in 1991. Actress Zoë Kravitz (31) is the daughter of the two.
