“We tried it anyway”, grins Oliver Freund, managing director of the seven-time Austrian basketball champion Kapfenberg, when asked about the junior’s career. “But basketball wasn’t his.” Son Leo decided against basketball – and against skiing. Instead he went for a mountain bike. Probably the right decision. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old Aflenzer has become a force to be reckoned with in downhill. “I started with my dad’s bike, and together with friends we kept pushing each other in town,” says Leo, who can use the Bürgeralm bike park 100 meters from the front door.
