Up to and including the 2026/27 season, ARD may continue to show selected games from the 3rd division on free TV. The broadcaster has agreed on this with the rights holder Deutsche Telekom. However, the new sub-license includes significantly fewer games than in the current season. Instead of 86 games, you will only be able to follow 68 games on ARD and the third programs.

The other 312 games, on the other hand, can only be seen on the Telekom service Magenta Sport. This also includes all games in the English weeks. The reason for this might be the success of the transfers. According to Deutsche Telekom, 25 million fans tuned in to Magenta Sport last season. In the new season, Telekom hopes to attract more viewers, particularly through new kick-off times. In the future there will be a top game late on Saturday afternoon.

The 2023/24 season kicks off in the 3rd division on August 4, 2023. The field of participants is once again attractive. With TSV 1860 Munich, Rot-Weiss Essen, Dynamo Dresden, MSV Duisburg and Waldhof Mannheim, several traditional clubs play in the 3rd division. With Preußen Münster, another club with a large fan base is also rising, and Arminia Bielefeld, a relegated club from the 2nd division, is also a big club.

Not only in the 3rd league there are changes in the TV rights. Other sports also change channels in the summer. In the linked article we give you an overview.
