The world of convertibles will continue to thin out in the coming years. However, the segment is not dead yet. Mercedes is even launching a new series, but is phasing out two others.
The four-seater cabriolets introduced by Mercedes in 2016/2017 based on the C and E-Class are to be replaced by the open and also four-seater CLE from next year. According to a report by Auto Motor und Sport, this step is the consequence of a self-imposed streamlining program for the combustion engine series by Mercedes. The convertible with two doors and an electric fabric roof will be technically based on the C-Class that will be launched in 2021. Accordingly, there will only be four-cylinder engines. This also applies to the AMG Performance versions 43 and 63e. The interior will feature a fully digital cockpit with large displays. In addition to a convertible, Mercedes is also said to be working on a closed coupé sister model. (SPX)
