Rather discreet on the laptop market in France, LG nevertheless enriches its “Gram” range with two new ultralight models equipped with OLED panels.

Like Samsung, LG is gradually regaining a place in the French laptop market. After its LG Gram 16 and Gram 14, which we tested at Clubic, the Korean brand took advantage of CES 2023 to unveil two new models in Las Vegas that will arrive well in our latitudes: the Gram Ultraslim and Gram Style. Let’s take stock of what they bring.

LG Gram Ultraslim: ultralight… but stuck in 16:9

The Gram Ultraslim is a 15.6-inch model that does not exceed 12.55 mm thick for only 998 g: a rarity for this format. The device is equipped with a Full HD OLED panel in 16:9 format, capable of displaying up to 400 cd / m2 of luminance. This screen ratio is nevertheless restrictive compared to the now usual 16:10 and 3:2 formats, and it is quite a shame to find it on a rather high-end product.

The lightness of the device also has an impact on the on-board battery, limited to 60 Wh. It could be a bit tight capacity to ensure good autonomy for the whole… especially since with this product, LG is betting on a 28 W Intel “Raptor Lake” processor (13e Gen) “P” series. This chip will be supported by a maximum of 32 GB of LPDDR5, and we will also find up to 1 TB of storage on this new Gram Ultraslim. On the connection side, the finesse of the device only leaves room for two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports and a classic USB-C socket.

LG Gram Style: a pearly look in two formats

Available in 16 and 14 inch versions, the Gram Style is more elegant and more premium than the Gram Ultraslim. It benefits in particular from a pearlescent coating whose color changes according to the ambient light (a bit like on some smartphones).

The 16-inch model will be able to count on a 3.2K OLED screen (400 nits) capable of going up to 120 Hz while also housing an Intel processor of 13e generation in 28 W, up to 32 GB of RAM (LPDDR5) and 1 TB of SSD. The size of this model, less compact, rises to 15.9 mm thick for 1,230 g, which in return allows it to switch to an 80 Wh battery. On the connector side, there are two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB-A 3.1 socket and a micro SD card reader.

Same technical sheet for the 14-inch model, with the exception of the OLED screen which is limited to 2.8K definition and 90 Hz. Inevitably, the format is also smaller (999 g on the scale), but one remains on 15.9 mm thick.

For now, LG France has not given a price or launch date for these two new laptops.
