Lightweight athlete – Porsche 911 T: Less is more is (not) more expensive

Porsche remains true to the tradition of gradually launching variants of the 911 that “make it easier” for fans to pull out the proverbial check book. Next derivative of the classic: the Porsche 911 Carrera T, where T stands for touring and actually means lightweight construction. The art of omission results in a weight loss of 35 kilograms and a price increase of twelve and a half thousand euros.

At 1470 kilograms, the T is the absolute lightweight in the price list. For most of the minus kilos, however, no tricky know-how is required, they simply threw out the back seat and replaced the eight-speed PDK with a manual seven-speed box, which is not available in the standard 911. However, the dual-clutch transmission can be ordered as an option if you don’t care about the 25 kg that it weighs more. The seven kilos of the rear seat are then the biggest chunk. Otherwise, savings are made on the noise insulation, which not only affects the weight, but also the engine sound in the interior. And you look through particularly light panes of glass, and the battery is also a lightweight variant. The 911 Carrera T ranks between the Carrera and Carrera S. The Carrera T takes over the biturbo engine with 385 hp and 450 Nm from the entry-level 911, but only runs at 291 instead of 293 km/h. The value for the standard sprint increases by three tenths to 4.5 seconds. Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a mechanical rear-axle differential lock comes standard with the Carrera S with manual transmission. The 911 Carrera T also has the Sport Chrono Package and the PASM sports suspension (-10 mm) as standard. This is only available on the 911 Carrera T in conjunction with the 385 hp engine. It is available as an option on the 911 Carrera S. Rear-axle steering can also be ordered for the 911 Carrera T as an option, which is otherwise also reserved for models from the 911 Carrera S upwards. Titanium gray Carrera S wheels with tires measuring 245/35 ZR 20 (front) and 305/30 ZR 21 (rear). The GT sports steering wheel, sports exhaust and the electric “Sports seats Plus” are also standard. The T can be recognized by its dark gray accents, new door and rear lettering as well as the decorative strips on the trunk lid grille, a gray wedge in the windscreen and black exhaust tailpipes. The Porsche 911 Carrera T will be available in Austrian retail in March 2023 and can already be ordered. In Austria the price is from 155,827 euros with PDK and 155,887 euros with manual transmission. The bottom line is that there is a price advantage of around ten percent compared to the basic 911 with the appropriate extras.
