At the end of the 19th day of Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain welcomes Stade Brestois on Sunday evening for an unexpected shock at the Parc des Princes. The Bretons, surprisingly third in the championship, favored the train to come and face the Parisians on the Parc lawn (kick-off 8:45 p.m.).

The Brestois, currently third in Ligue 1, may have had the best season in their history, but they are keeping their feet on the ground before facing the undisputed leader, Paris Saint-Germain, this Sunday evening at 8:45 p.m. An unexpected shock at the end of the 19th day of the French championship, between PSG and Brest who for the occasion favored rail rather than plane to get to the capital.

Coach Éric Roy’s players opted for this type of travel for ecological and financial reasons. From the tip of Finistère to Paris, the journey takes 3.5 hours. In Ligue 1, the Rouge et Blanc also move at the speed of a TGV: the Bretons remain in nine matches without defeat.

“No pressure to have”, underlines the Brest coach

Their best player, attacking midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou, coveted by Stade Rennais, was not sold this winter, proof of Brest’s ambitions. If PSG, a narrow winner in the first leg (3-2), is the favorite, coach Éric Roy is approaching this match at the Parc des Princes without complexes and without pressure. “There is no pressure to be had. It is rather a privilege to travel to the Park with 34 points in 18 days,” he underlines at a press conference.

The Breton tactician wants his group to “sink into this match with all their teeth. In any case, there will be the desire to be involved in this match whatever happens”, assures Éric Roy. And to become the equal of the figures of the Brest club of the 1980s-1990s, like Bernard Lama, David Ginola or even Paul Le Guen, the current players of Stade Brestois led by their captain Brendan Chardonnet hope to defeat PSG for the first time since 1985, almost 40 years.
