According to the SBB, the train derailed at 4:15 a.m. between Leissigen and Krattighalden during construction work with one axle. There were temporary delays and cancellations.
During the route disruption, rail replacement buses were used between Spiez and Interlaken. Intercity and regional trains were affected by the interruption.
Commuter volume manageable
The number of commuters on the route between Interlaken and Spiez was manageable. In Spiez and especially in Thun, many more commuters boarded trains towards Bern.
The intercity trains from Interlaken are also often used by tourists who are traveling to and from the major airports in the country.
