Live emotion in Morocco! We must save the little Rayan, 5 years old, stuck in a well for 3 days

A 5-year-old boy fell into a dry well more than 30 meters deep in Morocco on Tuesday (February 1st). Since then, the emergency services have been busy trying to save him. The operations are followed by the whole country.

It’s a story that keeps everyone in suspense. Morocco. Rayan, a 5-year-old boy, fell into a dry well more than 30 meters deep, this Tuesday, February 1. The tragedy took place in a village not far from the locality of Bab Berred, in the province of Chefchaouen, in northern Morocco. “In a moment of inattention, the little one fell into the well I was repairing. I couldn’t sleep a wink all night”explains his father, with the information site Le360.

Since, the emergency services are busy trying to save the young boy. They could not descend directly into the well, because its diameter does not exceed 45 centimeters, explained Abdelhabi Temrani, responsible for the rescue operation, on public television Al Oula. Nor would it have been possible to widen the hole, as this could have caused a landslide. The emergency services therefore opted for dig a lap around the well.

According to West France, operations intensified overnight from Thursday to Friday. Drilling works “reached more than 27 meters, with the hope of reaching 32 meters in the next few hours, before digging a horizontal breach of 3 meters between the hole and the well to recover the child”reported the MAP news agency. “Water and oxygen through tubes” were sent to Petit Rayan.

A Medical team is also at the scene of the accident in order to “carry out initial examinations and resuscitation interventions for the child once rescued”said the MAP. A gendarmerie helicopter is also ready to evacuate the child to a nearby hospital. Of many inhabitants from the region went to the scene of the accident to show their support for Rayan’s relatives and the rescuers. This has sometimes hampered the smooth running of operations. “Rescuers are working in very difficult conditions. Citizens are called upon to let them work to save this child”, asked the spokesman of the Moroccan government, Mustapha Baitas. The hashtag #saverayan (in Arabic) is still one of the main trends on Twitter in Morocco.

This accident reminds the drama that was played out in Spain in 2019. Little Julen, 2 years old, had fallen into a well 25 centimeters in diameter and 1,000 meters deep. The relief had been mobilized for 13 days, but the little boy had been found dead.
