RN AND LFI WILL NOT APPLY GAUGES
Elected officials from the National Rally and France Insoumise said Wednesday that their respective parties would not respect gauges or other health precautions during upcoming meetings. “The question does not arise”, declared Sébastien Chenu on Europe 1. He recalled that the Constitution allowed “until proof to the contrary” the holding of “political meetings and meetings without limitation”. However, “this does not prevent taking a number of measures” such as barrier gestures or social distancing, tempers the spokesperson for Marine Le Pen.
LFI deputy, Éric Coquerel, did not say anything else on RMC. “It would be problematic to establish a gauge” for the meetings of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, he said, qualifying the government measures as “liberticidal”. “We can certainly think about density issues,” he suggested.
While the Constitution does not allow the setting of gauges for political meetings, the presidential majority announced Tuesday that it would apply in its future electoral meetings the gauges for gatherings recently announced by the executive, namely 2,000 people maximum indoors, 5,000 outdoors.
