LoL: Are the MAD Lions cursed in BO5 this season?

The end of MAD Lions Madrid in League of Legends Super League was a real drama. The project was ambitious, and the team had to at least play the playoffs, or even the EU Masters. Only the mayonnaise did not take, and the MAD fell into the second division, after losing the 2 BOs that could save them against Guasones and CASE Esports. Worse still, the team only managed to win one round in 2 BO5s.

A problem in BO5?

These two defeats prolong the curse of the organization in 2022, since the LEC and ERL team won none of the four Best of Five played by the structure. If the LEC team still had good results in BO1 during the Summer Split, the Lions seem to have a concern for preparation for the cleaver matches.

Since the establishment of the club, the lions have always been one of the teams to follow, not only at national level, being the only Spanish structure to have never lifted the EU Masters trophy, but also as an LEC team. It must be said that they inherited the DNA of Splyce, a structure that was growing in power from year to year. It would be unfair to say that the team has disappointed since its takeover, but the season’s record has been poor so far, given that the structure has failed to respond in the playoffs.

Message to MAD Lions Fans

“To all our subscribers,

Today is a tough day for MAD Lions . We are deeply disappointed with our performance in LVP Super League. We pride ourselves on aiming for the top in the competitions, but despite notable success in the LEC, the Super League project fell short of our expectations.

MAD Lions is a historic organization in Spain and throughout Europe, and we are aware of the bitter disappointment this setback represents for our fans and partners . Relegation will give us time to reflect , but our will is nevertheless unshakeable. We will assess the situation, consider our alternatives, and give the MAD Lions team the glory it deserves.

Sincerely, MAD Lions.”

After this tweet, messages of support were sent to the team, and several of their competitors in the Superligua such as Bisons and Movistar Riders, sent them messages of encouragement after this hard setback for the organization.

According Yeste the situation at MAD can be explained by several factors:

  • With the arrival of OverActive Media, there has been a significant change in the coaching staff who officiated in the Super League at the time and who had allowed the organization to acquire its letters of nobility in the Super League.
  • They gave less and less importance to the academy so the decline seemed inevitable.

With the relegation of MAD Lions this is an unprecedented situation for an LEC team, whose academic team is no longer in a national first division. We will have to see if the situation improves next year.

As League of Legends patch 12.18 lands tonight, Riot Games has already showcased the skins that will accompany the next cycle. The Spirit Blossom family returns to Summoner’s Rift with no less than 10 new skins.
