War is declared between Europe and the‘North America before MSI. The two main regions of the Western world are enemy sisters, who share a lot, especially players, but who especially like to argue and send spades. The rivalry between the two regions returns to each international tournament and this time we will have the right to a lot of direct confrontations. G2 Esports (LEC) and Evil Geniuses (LCS) have been placed in the same pool (Pool C) which has only 3 teams. We will therefore have at least 3 EU vs NA matches. If all goes well we will at least have some 5 and if all goes very well, we could even have even more rab !
It’s the midlaner ofEvil Geniuses who kicked off hostilities, declaring after winning the LCS final that he was going to “shit on Europe”. We knew more class like trash talk, but it had at least the advantage of being effective. Obviously, Jankos the G2 Esports jungler reacted by counterattacking with a tackle subtlebut oh how assassin !
It’s not the young monkey who will teach the old to make faces
Jankos is a veteran who has had many adventures during his career. The Pole responded wisely and subtly, remaining polite and benevolent on the surface. But his answer remains basically just as effective as the frontal and direct attack of the young American: “What he says makes sense. He has never had the opportunity to play against international players so he cannot don’t know. But we’ll make him understand.”
The veteran presses exactly where it hurts, emphasizing two points:
- The first is that jojopyun is only 17 years old (Jankos is 26). The jungler has already played in many international campaigns, regularly participating in the Worlds (finalist in 2019) and also winning the MSI (2019). For his part, the American is living his first year at the highest level and has even more games of LCS Academy in the legs than matches in the first league. He also hasn’t played a game against LCK, LPL or LEC teams during his young career.
- By extrapolating a little, we can also add that overall the American teams have less international experience than the Big 4 average, because LCS teams often get kicked out early. This was particularly the case at MSI last year, when C9 failed to qualify for the Knockout Stage.
Jankos against the NA, what does it give?
We looked at the history of confrontations between Jankos and NA teams, counting the “real” stakes tournaments (Worlds, MSI and IEM). We could also have counted the Rift Rivals, where Europe has more often shone. But those matches were usually closer to the exhibition than anything else. Whether with Roccat, H2K or G2 Esports, the European shows very positive statistics:
- 10 wins (including a 3-0 in the MSI 2019 final against Team Liquid)
- 5 losses (including 2 against CLG with Team Roccat at IEM Cologne 2014)
Numbers can of course be manipulated in one direction or the other. but overall, Jankos masters his subject and he has very regularly martyred the NA teams. jojopyun can therefore show the confidence he wants, the Pole is not impressed at all.
