League of Legends prepare for the arrival of the new challenge system in the upcoming patch 12.9. All players will receive over 300 tasks and missions to complete gradually. What many players will not have noticed when announcing the new challenges is that Riot Games took advantage of the situation to honor a few professional players. We already knew that the developer did it with Faker — thanks to the mission “Unkillable Demon King” which consists in not dying from the game – but it will not be the only one immortalized in the client thanks to this system.
Flame Horizon, a wink that part of the community did not understand
Among the examples shown by Riot Games on how challenges work, there is one called Flame Horizon in English (Making a difference in French). It is easy to see that it is with an obvious nod to professional player Lee “Flame” Ho-jong. A veteran of the League of Legends competition who notably played in LCK and LCS and went through teams like Longzhu, Immortals or FlyQuest.
Flame was an extremely talented player in his prime, and particularly shone in the laning phase. He used to get huge minion advantages against his opponents and on several occasionshe managed to farm 100 more minions than his opponent . It was an unprecedented feat at the time and few players today are able to pull it off. He had simply learned to handle the waves as he pleased before the concept became popular in the competitive environment of League of Legends.
That’s why the challenge is to farm 100 more minions than your opponent during the lane phase. Even in ranked matches, this will be extremely difficult to pull off unless there is a huge level gap or you go for a particular strategy. But Riot Games does not stop there. In addition to the “Flame Horizon” challenge, the studio has included similar challenges that, for example, require you to be three levels higher than your opponent. As you might expect, completing League of Legends missions won’t be as easy as expected.
