Very discreetly, Riot Games continues its small updates on its former League of Legends champions. A brand new design of Kassadin’s base splashart appeared on the PBE last night — hopefully an update to the visual appearance of the Void Hunter, and possibly more.

Our champion is no longer young since he was released in the early hours of the game, in 2009. It was therefore high time for the studio to look into his case to restore his letters of nobility. On this new splashart, Kassadin seems more powerful and closer to the Void than ever, his region of origin, but also to his daughter Kai’Sa, whom he sacrificed to the Void – especially in terms of colors.
This new visual gives her features that resemble those found on her daughter, Kai’Sa. He also makes his “octopus” mask much more menacing, by eliminating some of the tubes and refining the horns.
But above all, it emphasizes the human form of the champion. Note that his clothes are torn – following the various battles he had to lead in the Void – in search of the self-proclaimed prophet Malzahar, responsible for all his misfortunes, who notably sacrificed Kai’Sa to the Void.
“It was at this moment that Kassadin swore to avenge his wife and daughter; he would destroy this pernicious Prophet and the source of his occult power. He who had earned his living by tracing safe paths in the most dangerous places resolved to arm himself with the most powerful arcane and esoteric weapons in all of Valoran, weapons which he would combine through the ingenuity of the Zaunites and have blessed by spiritual healers of Ionia. […] Finally, he stole the infamous Ethereal Blade of Horok, the sword that had decimated thousands of traitors in the last days of the empire. He could feel the cold pull of oblivion on his edge, but he had no regard for his own humanity, and nothing of his old life to lose.
Disguised as a pilgrim, more than a decade after he last walked this desolate land, Kassadin made his way to Icathia. He would go where no man was supposed to go.
He would have his revenge, even if it meant killing him.”
Riot Games has not yet communicated on the subject. It could just be an update to its splasharts, or even just the base one, or a more extensive visual update. In any case, this new design is convincing and we hope that the work of the studio will not stop there.
Thanks to the Tech-Chemical Dragon, the Proud Stalker was supposed to become a monster of the current meta — but things have turned sour, to the point where Rengar seems almost unplayable. Fortunately, Riot Games has heard the complaints of the League of Legends community…
