LoL: the LEC would have the right to one more slot for the Worlds which will take place from September 29

This information comes to us from the newspaper l’Équipe. Indeed, according to their sources, the european championship of League of Legends (LEC) should send four teams instead of three to Worlds 2022, scheduled for September 29 through November 5 in the United States.

Still according to Team sources, Riot Games will very soon reveal that the league will not qualify three teams, as expected, but four. This decision would have been made by the publisher as a result of the war in Ukraine.

Because of the suspension of the LCL (the eastern european league), in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine last February, the LEC would have the right to an additional slot. A team would come to replace the hole left by the LCL.

Last year, the Vietnamese league could not send anyone to the Worlds due to the Covid and the publisher changed the format of the competition. However, Riot Games has just announced that this year, there will be 24 teams present at the Worlds which will resume the usual format. Thereby, a victory in the winner bracket during the playoffs will secure a spot at Worlds 2022.
