LoL: Why will this popular Wild Rift feature never come to the game?

It’s been almost two years since Wild Rift landed on our mobiles, and since then it has generated a lot of tension between players of the PC version, the sacrosanct League of Legends, and the developers. If it seems obvious that many members of the community conceal that these are two very separate entities within the company – and that therefore the decisions and additions to each of the two games are not common – that does not prevent him from complaining regularly.

One of the grievances that comes up the most on the table concerns champion skins and mods. In 13 years of existence, some have aged terribly badly on LoL, and therefore arrive on Wild Rift completely revamped. A situation that Riot Games has been trying to resolve for a few months by carrying out graphic overhauls of its oldest characters. But the latest additions have made the community jump.

Features that will remain exclusive to Wild Rift

To be completely honest, before these latest additions, Wild Rift didn’t really have any exclusives except for a few ranges of skins. The studio is certainly not going to take the risk – at least not for the moment – of adding a completely new champion to Wild Rift. Also, it’s a time-consuming process and even when it comes to adding an already existing character from the PC version to the mobile version, the team in charge of Wild Rift champions has a job. colossal (if they have the champion’s lore, identity and visual, everything must be recreated from A to Z).

The “Visionary” range of skins only exists on Wild Rift

But here we are not going to talk about champions or skins but features that are only present in Wild Rift, and especially one that could have come to League of Legends. We’re talking about pick order swapping here — not to be confused with role swapping. The developers at Riot Games finally explained why she wasn’t added to the game.

Riot Games’ explanation

Kam”boournsWild Rift developer Fung explained on Reddit how he created the “pick order swap” in mobile gaming and explained why this popular feature didn’t make it to League of Legends. The pick order swap allows Wild Rift players to swap their pick order during champ select. For example, if a player is ranked first in his team but he prefers to choose the last to be able to counter pick (very useful for mid laners for example), he can exchange his pick order with another player of the team. ‘crew.

The swap role is therefore not similar since it involves exchanging one’s position — which can also sometimes cause misunderstandings between players. Here, you keep your position but you can ask your team to change the order of selection.

League of Legends

“I had come up with this when I was working on the champion select rework on PC”, explains boourns. But his first designs were “a little too complex”. Later, he moved on to the Wild Rift team, where he and the game’s developer team managed to turn the idea into reality.

The reason why they failed to add this feature on PC is relatively simple. Boourns said adding such a feature to League would require a lot of work and would require the dev team to re-build the client from scratch: “The answer isn’t actually spaghetti code. It’s more about the opportunity you have to rebuild the game from the ground up for a new audience”Boourns said.

In short, porting this functionality to PC would require a large investment of time to transfer the system, but this is not the ultimate obstacle. The biggest hurdle is ultimately the priority level of development — and given that the system isn’t broken, it’s not very high. Value (for players) would be better invested in new systems.

We may have gone through the numbers of the teams qualified for the Worlds of League of Legends, but we did not manage to find a French player in the rosters… While we already know 23 of the 24 participants, there is no will be no miracle. Is it rare for a world without French?
