Uwe Seeler recovers after a serious fall

Uwe Seeler will soon be 85. He has been struggling with health problems for years. In September he missed a step in his house. He falls. And remains motionless on the floor. He is hospitalized. Now he is on the mend.

Uwe Seeler suffered cuts in his house in a fall in September, but is now well again. “The doctors really had to sew something for me,” said the honorary captain of the national team of the “Hamburger Morgenpost”: “I looked like Quasimodo, I hid at home and only went back to the door when it had healed to some extent. “

Seeler, who celebrates his 85th birthday on November 5th, had overlooked a step in the newspaper on September 12th after having had a coffee with a tray in his hand and had fallen. “I fell straight into the broken porcelain,” said Seeler, who, according to his wife Ilka, “was bleeding like a pig”. She found him lying motionless on the floor: “First I checked whether he was still breathing. I turned him over and put a pillow under his head so that he could breathe,” she said. Seeler, who takes blood thinners, was treated in the hospital.

“That was tough, so much more could have happened. You get scared,” said Ilka Seeler: “We all lovingly cared for Uwe and made new bandages every day.” But the Hamburg honorary citizen had “naturally received good healing meat and – as in earlier days in his active days – an iron will to get well again”.

The vice world champion from 1966 had to struggle with health problems again and again in the past few years. In 2020, the Hamburg soccer idol suffered a broken hip in a serious fall. He was also troubled by the consequences of a car accident eleven years ago, and the former striker was plagued by back problems. In 2017, Seeler was successfully fitted with a pacemaker.
