LOPMI: the programming law of the Ministry of the Interior should be adopted without difficulty

The deputies continue the examination of the programming law of the Ministry of the Interior, the LOMPI and its 15 billion additional credits by 2027, with 8,500 police and gendarme posts. The text could be adopted at the end of the day, with once again an outstretched hand from the Republicans in the majority.

Will there be a new handshake between the majority and the right? After the texts on purchasing power and health this summer, after the unemployment insurance reform in the fall, the executive should once again lean on the right to pass the LOPMI, the text of the planning law of the Ministry of the Interior. This contains in particular an additional 15 billion euros and provides for the creation of 8,500 police and gendarme posts.

“I would be very surprised to see Les Républicains opposing increased resources for law enforcement, for the safety of the French people. If the Republicans want to oppose that, I would no longer understand where their backbone is. ideological”, says Benjamin Haddad, Renaissance deputy for Paris. The majority therefore puts pressure on the Republicans, who are very critical of Emmanuel Macron’s security record. But the LR senators have amended the text and the deputies will not oppose it.

A text amended but accepted

“All the people who today vote for the right are in favor of our law enforcement having more resources, because there are more law enforcement on the ground. So we’re not going to vote against, just to please a few commentators”, comments Ian Boucard, LR deputy for the Territory of Belfort.

“This has been our position from the start, laws that are harmful to the country, we oppose them. We did it, for example, on the finance bill. Laws that are good for our country , which we consider good during this country, we work on them to improve them, in order to then be able to vote for them”, he adds. The National Rally should also vote in favor of the text. Part of the socialists also, even if the majority of the Nupes will oppose it.
