By opening your eyes, you will be able to see Peter Jackson, the director of The Lord of the Rings, four times during the trilogy. In The Fellowship of the Ring, he bites into a carrot at the entrance to the village of Bree. In The Two Towers, he takes part in the Battle of Helm’s Deep and hurls projectiles at Saruman’s Uruk-hai. In The Return of the King, he plays a pirate of Umbar attacked by Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli.
Finally, when Sam Gamegie faces the monstrous Arachne, in one of the shots, it is the filmmaker’s arm (and not that of Sean Astin) that we can see holding the Stinger sword.
The unlikely encounter between Pippin and Legolas
It was at London airport, just before boarding for New Zealand (and for one of the most incredible adventures of their entire lives) that Billy Boyd and Orlando Bloom, respectively interpreters of Pippin and Legolas in the saga, met for the first time:
“We didn’t know each other, I didn’t know what he was like. It was crazy”says Orlando Bloom in the audio commentary of the film. “We traveled together. We got to know each other. On the plane, we learned the poem from the beginning of the book. It was great.”
