It has now been more than a year since the AirTag 2 gave any sign of life. Yes, it was in June of last year that the first rumors about a second iteration of AirTags began to be heard on the Web. At that time, the well-informed Ming-Chi-Kuo told us that the AirTag 2 would only see the light of day if the first generation model continued to sell well. As a reminder, no less than 20 million copies were sold in the first year of launch, i.e. in 2021. Estimates for the year 2022 were counting on 35 million units sold.
A year has passed since then, and everything suggests that the situation has been favorable for the AirTag. Indeed, the analyst, well known to social networks (and mainly to the Apple community), today has some good news to share with us.
The AirTag 2 for 2024… and a connection with the Apple Vision Pro?
According to the analyst, whose remarks are reported to us by 9to5Macthere is no longer any doubt that the AirTag 2 will enter mass production from the fourth quarter of the year 2024. If we still do not know what the specifics of this new tracker will be, our colleagues from 9to5Mac believe that it could part with its U1 chip (which is useful for localization and precision research) in favor of an as yet unannounced U2 chip. But, still according to Ming-Chi-Kuo, Apple’s strategy would go even further with the new AirTag…
Earlier this year, Apple unveiled its first space computer, the Apple Vision Pro. Expected for the beginning of next year in the United States, the mixed reality headset could have been thought of as the central element of an ecosystem, to which would therefore be added the new AirTag. If we do not have details on the integration of the tracker in the XR headphones, we can easily imagine that the American firm will push the technology even further by incorporating a significantly improved Ultra Wideband chip.
