Louise Glück: The US poet receives the Nobel Prize for Literature

The 2020 Nobel Prize for Literature goes to Louise Glück. She has an "unmistakable, poetic voice".

The US poet and essayist Louise Glück (77), born in New York City in 1943, receives the 2020 Nobel Prize for Literature. The Swedish Academy announced this on October 8th in Stockholm. The Nobel Prize is given to her, according to the reason for "her unmistakable, poetic voice", "which makes individual existence universal with its strict beauty."

Already awarded many times

Grew up on Long Island, now lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts and teaches at Yale University. Her works include "American Originality: Essays on Poetry", "The Wild Iris", "Ararat" and "Meadowlands". The poet has received numerous awards for her work, including the Pulitzer Prize.

Between 1901 and 2020, the Nobel Prize for Literature was awarded 113 times. The award is endowed with ten million Swedish kronor, which corresponds to more than 950,000 euros.
