Wolfsburg captures a lucky dot
The front runner in the Bundesliga is very lucky at the start of the Champions League: Hardly anything is going in the front, a goal from Lille is retracted in the back. Chelsea FC celebrates striker Lukaku again, Juventus Turin proves to themselves that wins are possible even without Cristiano Ronaldo.
Harmless wolves without a bite: VfL Wolfsburg started the Champions League with a zero number. The Bundesliga leaders did not get beyond a goalless draw at Lille OSC and could only convince through largely solid defensive work.
In front of 32,000 spectators in Stade Pierre-Mauroy, the Lower Saxony could not build on their strong league appearances. The referee reversed his decision based on video evidence. When the six minutes of stoppage time were over, the referee even whistled a penalty for Lille. Guilavogui had knocked Onana. But the VAR came back and confirmed that the foul had taken place outside the penalty area.
Chelsea win thanks to Lukaku
Defending champion FC Chelsea under coach Thomas Tuchel had a lot of trouble at the start against Zenit St. Petersburg, but could rely on king transfer Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian star striker scored in the 69th minute and gave the Blues a hard-fought 1-0 (0-0) victory. In the second game of Group H Juventus won 3-0 (3-0) at Underdog Malmö FF with goals from Alex Sandro (23rd), Paulo Dybala (penalty / 45th) and Alvaro Morata (45th + 1).
Atalanta Bergamo escaped defeat at Villarreal FC thanks to international Robin Gosens. The left winger scored the final 2-2 (83rd) after the Spaniards had temporarily turned the game through Manu Trigueros (39th) and Arnaut Danjuma (73rd). Substitute Francis Coquelin played for Villarreal only 24 minutes before he was thrown off the pitch again with a yellow-red (84th).
