Maddie McCann disappeared fourteen years ago in Portugal. While German authorities believe her dead, Scotland Yard investigators remain hopeful and continue their research.

It was already fourteen years ago. On May 3, 2007, Maddie McCann mysteriously disappeared in Portugal. She has never been found since. For the German authorities, the three-year-old girl would have been kidnapped and murdered. Yet in England, Scotland Yard investigators do not seem to agree. According to information from Daily Mail, published on December 25, 2021, British police forces believe she may still be alive. They therefore continue to work on the case, called “Operation Grange”.

Another proof that shows that the police believe that Maddie McCann is still alive: they are investigating as if it were a disappearance and not a homicide. To continue their investigations, the members of “Operation Grange” received a grant from the English Ministry of the Interior. They thus obtained 350,000 pounds (approximately 415,000 euros). This sum should serve them to eliminate all inconclusive leads by the end of next year.

An identified suspect

As a reminder, little Madeleine McCann disappeared in May 2007 while she was on vacation with her parents in Praia da Luz, Portugal. That evening, they went to a restaurant with friends and, when they returned, the girl was no longer there. In 2020, German authorities identified a suspect: Christian Brueckner. Currently sentenced to seven years in prison in Germany for the rape of a woman, the 43-year-old man was in the same resort as Maddie and her family on the day of his disappearance, where he could be located thanks to his phone .
