Maëlys case: huge clash between TPMP columnists around a report on Nordahl Lelandais

The Touche team not at my post on C8 had a heated exchange after the broadcast of new content around the Maelys affair in the TF1 newscast, Thursday January 13. The tone rose between the columnists.

This is a case that has fascinated the press since 2017. On the night of August 26 to 27, 2017, Maelys de Araujo is reported missing during a wedding that takes place in Pont-de-Beauvoisin, in Isère. Thursday January 13, TF1 broadcast unpublished images of the investigation. The last photo of Maelys alive, taken in the car of Nordahl Lelandais and the snapshots of the reconstruction of the facts.

The first photo, Do not touch My TV refused to air it on his show, as explained Cyril Hanouna and his team. “This photo is probably the last photo of Maelys living photo, detailed Gilles Verdez. To obtain it, TF1 had documents from the procedure. It’s purely and simply a possible criminal offense punishable by one year’s imprisonment and a fine of 15,000 euros. There is a police investigation. If you, for example, continue to distribute it, we are in breach of professional secrecy.

The tone rises on the set of TPMP

The TPMP team, however, broadcast the images of the reconstitution, while blurring the face of Nordahl Lelandais in addition to that of the model who plays Maelys, already blurred by TF1. If C8 was cautious, a columnist on set lamented the revelation of these images on the competing channel. “I find it disgusting, shameful, TF1, the 8 p.m., … denounced Raymond. I think of the parents. To the family. I have trouble breathing. If we had done that to my daughter… We see Nordahl Lelandais next door. She’s there, in her car, we found blood in her car. I find it hard to say presumed innocent. I say shame on TF1. Do these people have kids?”

Raymond then calls another columnist. “Perhaps Guillaume has no children”, he says to his peer. Gilles Verdez replies that there is “a French tradition of talking about news items”. “There, it’s the investigation, they had a huge scoop, it’s a reconstruction, considers for his part Matthew Delormeau. Of course, it’s horrible, but that’s what allows barbarism to be seen.”

A trial until February 11

As a reminder, Nordahl Lelandais had himself confessed to the murder of the girl before leading the investigators to her bones. The Grenoble Court of Appeal told AFP that the trial will take place until February 11, 2022, date confirmed by the Grenoble prosecutor’s office in the process. On January 31, Nordahl Lelendais will also have to answer for the offenses of sexual abuse of two 15-year-old minors, after the touching committed, this same summer of 2017, on two of her little cousins then aged 5 and 6, as well as the recording and detention of child pornography images.
