Monday June 13, 2022, actor Henri Garcin, known in particular for his role as Pierre Bretteville in the Maguy series, died. He was 94 years old.
Henri Garcin, real name Anton Albers died at the age of 94. It was his agent, Anne Alvares-Correa, who announced the sad news in a press release. If she did not specify the causes of his death, she revealed that the actor is dead in the night from Sunday 12 to Monday 13 June 2022.
Henri Garcin became popular in the 80s by joining the cast of the television series Maguy. Indeed, the French actor of Dutch origin performed the role of Pierre Bretteville, the neighbor across the street and best friend of Georges in the series by Jean-Guy Gingembre and Stéphane Barbier. He is moreover appeared in all 333 episodesbroadcast between 1985 and 1993. A complete actor, Henri Garcin also distinguished himself in cinema and theatre.
After Maguy, Henri Garcin had “slightly moved away from the cinema”.
In 2018, Henri Garcin had published his memoirs in For a long time I went to bed late published by Morrigane. In this book filled with anecdotes, he had evoked his celebrity after the series Maguy and had confided that this role had then “a bit far from the cinema“.
Despite this turning point in his profession, the actor shone in many films. In 1981, he was particularly noticed in the film The woman next door, directed by François Truffaut. He played the role of Philippe Bauchard, the deceived husband. He also distinguished himself in anti-hero roles as in The good life (1966) with Catherine Deneuve where he played an outdated seducer or in sorrel flower (1967) with Mireille Darc, where he played a gangster this time. His last film role was in 2020 in The Holy Familyby Louis-Do de Lencquesaing, with Laura Smet and Léa Drucker.
