The multibillionaire and Microsoft founder Bill Gates (65, "How to Avoid a Climate Disaster") conducted an approximately 45-minute interview with Sandra Maischberger (54). The conversation for "maischberger. Die woche" will be shown in a shortened version in the broadcast on March 17th from 10:50 pm on the Erste. The full conversation will then be broadcast one day later by tagesschau24 from 9:45 p.m.
Corona and climate change
In the interview, Gates gives his prognosis for the further progress of the corona vaccinations. In the rich countries, he assumes that the vaccinations can be completed by the end of 2021. In the rest of the world, however, "this will still require a lot of generosity. If we can do it, the whole world should be vaccinated by 2022," said Gates. He is also in good spirits that the vaccines are also effective against the corona mutations.
It is a mystery to him that there are still conspiracy theories about the virus and his person: "It is very difficult to understand why I should want to monitor people. And what the connection is between microchips and vaccines. Me don't understand at all. "
Gates cites climate change as a much greater long-term threat than Corona, because: "Sadly, climate change cannot be combated as quickly and as easily as by producing a vaccine."
A fluctuation from private life
But Maischberger doesn't just chat with Gates about global issues. The philanthropist also speaks about his private life. About how his marriage to his Melinda made him "a little more normal".
