LG announces a new operating system upgrade for its TVs running WebOS. Scheduled for deployment in early 2024, it is part of the WebOS RE:New program and will concern all models in the LG OLED 2022 range, the LG OLED Flex, the LG OLED Object Collection Posé and the LG QNED Mini LED 8K 2022.
WebOS update on many TVs
This new version of LG’s OS is designed to offer a more personalized TV experience and will contain a home screen providing relevant suggestions for content to view. The WebOS user interface will be more customizable, allowing the user to select their favorite content and services. It will also be possible to define categories for optimal classification of flows: teleworking, games, home dashboard, sports, etc.
With this new upgrade, LG will allow content providers to reach a wider audience due to the compatibility of this operating system on a large number of TVs.
As implied by Baik Seon-pill, vice president and head of LG’s TV product planning division, the brand is preparing to make a large-scale investment in WebOS with an eye toward a vast content library aimed at satisfy all users. As part of the RE:New program, webOS will now benefit from five years of updating, good news for users who will be able to benefit from the new features over a longer period of time.
Other new products from LG’s Home Entertainment department will be announced next week during CES 2024 to be held in Las Vegas.
