Instead of liquid soap in plastic dispensers, we prefer solid bars of soap. This is more sustainable and saves both plastic and money. But such a bar of soap can quickly slip away, so it needs a nice soap dish. And you can simply design it yourself according to the DIY principle: Here you can find out how you can make a soap dish yourself and don’t even need a lot of materials.

Make your own soap dish: instructions

  1. Form several balls in different shades of colored modeling clay and roll them out flat with a rolling pin. Cut small pieces of different shapes and sizes from the sheets of dough.
  2. Place these “fake shards” on a baking sheet and allow them to dry in the oven, or set them on a flat surface to air dry.
  3. As soon as the “shards” have hardened, roll out the white modeling clay to a thickness of about 1 cm. Using a bowl as a template for the circumference, cut out a circle of dough.
  4. Place the colorful shards randomly on the white circle of dough and gently roll over them with the rolling pin so the shards are pressed into the dough. Adjust the curve if necessary, then use a straw to punch a few holes in the bottom of the soap dish.
  5. Carefully place the decorated sheet of dough in a bowl to shape it, then allow the modeling clay to set in the oven or in the air.
  6. Once dry, detach the soap dish from the bowl and lightly sand it smooth with very fine sandpaper. Optionally paint the shell with clear lacquer to protect it from moisture.
