To the side with the brush sets, the sponges and beauty blenders! Our fingers are now our favorite makeup tool. They even have some advantages that such a professional beauty tool does not have. We show why we can no longer keep our hands off this trend.

One thing is certain: Make-up tools such as brushes and beauty blenders are not the cleanest thing. And at the latest when we are still grinding our lips with our fine eyelid brush at the end of the look, it is high time to clean the product thoroughly. There are also various beauty blender and brush hacks that are supposed to improve and facilitate the application: blow-dry the brush, wet the beauty blender or even put it in the freezer. Who will come after that? We are now making it extra easy for ourselves and relying on tact!

The right technique

In order to create a flawless look without a lot of expensive beauty tools, the technology and the necessary sensitivity are particularly important. Global make-up artist Vincent Ford shows us in a masterclass by NARS what is particularly important. We have summarized the absolute key hack for you.

Dab instead of wiping

When applying products with the finger, one golden rule should always be observed: I never smear or wipe – it is dabbed. We just press the foundation or concealer gently into the skin without smearing or smudging. According to Vincent Ford from NARS, the palm of the thumb is suitable for slightly larger areas. If we want to work more precisely, for example when covering the dark circles, the fingertips are recommended. However, we do not use just any finger here, but at best the ring or middle finger. These naturally exert less pressure and allow us to work finer.
Big advantage: Nothing can be absorbed by applying liquid products with your fingers. By applying makeup to foundation and concealer with beauty blenders and sponges, on the other hand, a lot of liquid is absorbed by the tool and is thus lost. So we not only save on beauty tools, but also use less of the product itself.

But not only applying foundation and concealer can be easier and more thorough with your fingers. The eye shadow can also get its final touch with the right sensitivity in the fingers. A complete eyeshadow look can only be more difficult to implement with the fingers, but our hands can give the look a certain something: glitter highlights as a finish! If we have already applied the base to the lid and contoured it properly, often only the sparkling end is missing. One problem with this can be that the glitter crumbles off the brush and lands on the concealer under the eye. Make-up artist Vincent Ford explains that there are two solutions to this.

Apply glitter highlights with a brush

If you don’t want to do without the brush for eyeshadow, you can easily use the back of your hand as a stopover from the palette to the eyelid. By dabbing and massaging the glitter pigments on the brush into the hand, the texture of the glitter is strengthened and not less concentrated. Then the brush with the now firmer glitter pigments can be applied more specifically to the eyelid without half of the highlight crumbling off onto the concealer.

Apply glitter highlights without a brush

Those who dare to use the eyeshadow without a brush can use this method to create a particularly highly pigmented highlight on the eyelid. To do this, we spray some fixing spray on our ring finger and then go into the chosen glitter color for the finish of the look. Then we apply the mixture of highly concentrated glitter and fixing spray to the middle of the eyelid. The spray does not crumble the color pigments and the eye is made to shine even more. With this trick, a soft color consistency is particularly suitable for the no-brush hack.

Our conclusion: What the brush can do, our fingers can do for a long time. So why invest a lot of time and money in the supposedly perfect beauty tool when we always have the best tool with us? If the trend is now burning under your fingers, you should only pay attention to one thing: wash your hands and please thoroughly! Otherwise the finger make-up can lead to unsightly blemishes and irritations.
