Make your own bath bombs

Bath bombs are often not cheap. That’s why we’re also presenting the DIY variant – and you can also make it together with your child.

The ingredients vary depending on who the bath bombs are intended for. If it is a gift for a friend, mother or grandmother, you can easily follow the ingredients below. If you want to do something good for yourself with the bath chocolates, you can choose the ingredients yourself. However, if the bath bombs are intended for your child, you should avoid using essential oils to be on the safe side.

Ingredients:

(For four to six servings)

  • 250 grams baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
  • 125 grams of citric acid powder
  • 60 grams of cornstarch
  • 60 grams of organic coconut or olive oil, shea or cocoa butter
  • 10 drops volatile oil
  • possibly sprinkles for decoration, Bath Bomb Shapes and some drops food coloring

Preparation:

  1. Step: Mix the dry ingredients: cornstarch, citric acid powder, and baking soda in a bowl. Always use twice as much baking soda as citric acid powder. Using the cornstarch will hold the bath bomb together.
  2. Step: Heat the coconut oil or fat in a saucepan in a warm place or on a low heat. Be careful not to let them get too hot, just warm them up and run them a bit before adding them to the dry ingredients in the bowl.
  3. Step: Then knead all the ingredients well and add about ten drops of the essential oil. If the mixture is too dry, add some coconut oil. If the mass is too moist, add a little more cornstarch until a moist, sandy mass is formed.
  4. Step: Then divide the mixture into as many bowls or plates as you want different colors on your bath bombs. Add the desired food coloring and knead well with your hands.
  5. Step: Now use your hands to shape the bath bombs into whatever shape you have in mind. Alternatively, cookie cutters or stainless steel molds are also suitable. Make sure that you press the mass together firmly so that it does not fall apart again immediately.
  6. Step: The bath bomb is not automatically finished with the shaping. You can decorate them as you wish. Glitter sugar, bath confetti or colorful sprinkles are suitable for this. You can either put the decoration directly into the mass or put it in the mold first and then add the mass.
  7. Step: Finally, let the homemade bath bombs dry for a day or two until they are nice and firm. Then you can enjoy your bubbling bath.
