The Foreign Office is lifting the travel restrictions for the Balearic Islands. From Sunday they are no longer considered a risk area.

The Federal Foreign Office is lifting the travel warnings for some Spanish areas, including the popular holiday islands of Mallorca and Ibiza, from Sunday. The notice literally states: "We are currently warning against unnecessary tourist trips to Spain, including the Canary Islands. With effect from March 14, 2021, this will no longer apply to the autonomous communities of Castile-La Mancha, Valencia, Extremadura, Murcia, Rioja as well as the Balearic Islands. " The Balearic Islands include Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, Formentera and Cabrera.

The Federal Foreign Office cites the recently falling corona infection numbers in the regions as the reason for the official relaxation. As it is also said, travel to these destinations is "discouraged". Anyone who flies anyway does not have to be tested and quarantined after returning. Many other Spanish regions, including the Canary Islands, are still considered risk areas.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) updated the list of international risk areas on Friday afternoon and deleted the Spanish regions mentioned above.
