The corona situation on the Germans' favorite island is "out of control". The government in Mallorca is now sounding the alarm.

For weeks, the popular holiday island of Mallorca has been one of the worst corona hotspots in all of Spain. Currently, the 14-day incidence is only exceeded by the autonomous region of Extremadura. According to the latest figures, 529 people per 100,000 inhabitants were last infected with the virus, almost twice as many people as the Spanish average. Now the spokeswoman for the local government, Pilar Costa, is also sounding the alarm: "The situation in Mallorca in particular is very negative."

The regional magazine "Diario de Mallorca" described the pandemic situation on site as "out of control". Meanwhile, the economically precarious situation is becoming more and more noticeable there due to the lack of tourist flows. The demand for aid has never been as great as it is at the moment, according to the "Diario de Mallorca". In the queues in front of the blackboards, it has long been no longer mainly homeless people from problem areas of Palma de Mallorca, but people from the middle of society.
