Manchester United confirm that out-of-contract Paul Pogba is leaving the club

Manchester United has formalized the departure of French midfielder Paul Pogba, who will not extend his contract.

It was anticipated, it is now official. Manchester United announces on Wednesday that Paul Pogba, at the end of the contract, leaves the club. “Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Paul Pogba on his successful career, and thank him for his contributions to Manchester United“, the Red Devils said in a statement.

The midfielder of the France team had been negotiating an extension of his contract for more than a year. He still affirmed, at the microphone of TF1 last March, that extending was only “not totally ruled out“. The two parties were ultimately unable to reach an agreement, and the world champion now finds himself with the possibility of signing with the club of his choice.

Two trophies won in six seasons

Pogba, trained in Le Havre, joined Manchester United in 2009 at the age of 16. He had barely played with the first team when he left England for Juventus in 2012. Four years later, he signed a return to great fanfare at Manchester, for a transfer worth 105 M€, a record at the time. But his irregularity and his numerous injuries prevented him from expressing all his talent at Old Trafford, from which he left with “only» a Europa League and a League Cup, won in 2017.

With him in the midfield, Manchester was twice vice-champion of England, but never really claimed the title. However, he was elected to the Premier League team at the end of the 2018-19 season. He leaves the Red Devils in a disappointing 6th place in the league, synonymous with qualification for the Europa League. According to the latest rumours, the most likely rebound for Pogba would be a return to Juventus, Italy.
