The first week of the new year will be dominated by the December employment report in the United States, as well as by the development of inflation in the euro zone against the backdrop of soaring energy prices. OPEC + is due to meet on Tuesday to take stock of oil production for 2022.

But before these events, scheduled for the weekend, Monday will be animated by the publication of the PMI Markit manufacturing activity indices in the euro zone and in the United States. As for the final indices for the month of December, they should have little impact on the financial markets. Economists expect, in fact, that they will be confirmed at 54.9 points in France, 57.9 in Germany and 58 in the euro area. A figure above 50 points reflects an expansion in activity, while a level below this threshold indicates a contraction.

For the United States, the market anticipates a marginal revision of the December estimate to 57.7 points, against 57.8 initially announced. Also to be followed is the trend in November construction spending across the Atlantic, expected to rise by 0.7% after an increase of 0.2% in October.

On the business front, Argan will unveil its 2021 turnover.
