Many trees fell – storm rages over Salzburg for the second evening in a row

After the devastation on Tuesday evening, which mainly hit the Flachgau, heavy gusts of wind with rain showers moved over Salzburg on Wednesday evening. Mainly affected was again the Flachgau, where more than 300 firefighters were on duty, but also the city. Many missions were necessary because of fallen trees.

It wasn’t quite as bad as the night before, but the balance sheet of the state fire brigade headquarters was also devastating on Wednesday evening. In the hours before 11 p.m., a total of 16 fire brigade trains were called upon for 56 operations. “The focus is again in Flachgau. Yesterday we had to pump out more cellars, today there are more fallen trees, ”said the regional fire brigade operations management. More than 300 men fought the aftermath of the storm. Trees that could not withstand the storm fell on cables or, as in Großgmain, on the roof of a house.

It also rained heavily in the city, coupled with strong gusts of wind. “One emergency call after the other comes in, and twelve fire alarms have also struck. We have a lot of trees on the roadway, some of which have carried overhead lines. We are currently on the road with all vehicles, including the support from the volunteer fire brigade, ”confirmed the Salzburg professional fire brigade in the late evening.
