Marathon record man: – “2024 will probably be my last year as a professional”

Austria’s best marathon runner Peter Herzog could end his career after the coming season. Meanwhile, preparations for the 2024 running festival in the city of Mozart are in full swing.

With a time of two hours, ten minutes and six seconds, Peter Herzog has held the Austrian record over the marathon distance since 2020. This year’s season was anything but as desired for the 36-year-old due to many injuries. “It was a complicated and difficult year. I’m currently in the process of setting up for 2024,” says the Pinzgauer. It could be a special year for him. “This will probably be my last season as a professional. 80 percent of the time I quit. I’ll only think about it again if I can get back to my previous achievements.” Herzog has definitely planned to start at the running festival, which will take place from May 5th to 12th in the city of Mozart. “Running in Salzburg is special. I don’t know yet what distance I’ll complete.” During the week with the “Salzburg Marathon” as a highlight, organizer Johannes Langer and his team are working almost around the clock. “This is an annual project,” says the 63-year-old. Special highlight in 2024: The starting signal is fired on the Staatsbrücke.
