The first images of “Barbie” by Greta Gerwig have just been unveiled. Margot Robbie is going to revolutionize the world of toys!
Broadcast in American theaters before Avatar 2: The Way of the Water, the trailer for Barbie by Greta Gerwig is finally revealed to everyone!
The first images are a nod to the opening scene of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 sci-fi classic, A Space Odyssey, and even features music from it by Richard Strauss.”Thus spake Zarathustra“.
Margot Robbie appears dressed and styled as the first Barbie doll was presented at the New York Toy Fair in 1959. The actress wears the iconic striped swimsuit and sunglasses. At the mere sight of it, the little girls go crazy and throw away their babies.
Margot Robbie then comes from behind, facing a candy pink universe in which the Ken dolls – Ryan Gosling, Ncuti Gatwa, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir – and other Barbies led by Issa Rae indulge in dancing.
The first colorful and musical images which show the revolution that was, at the time, the presentation of this first doll which bears the diminutive of the daughter of its creator (Ruth Handler).

63 years after her birth, the famous Mattel doll will therefore be entitled to a feature film in real shots.
Directed by Greta Gerwig, Oscar nominee for The Daughters of Dr. March in 2020 and Lady Bird in 2018, from a script she wrote with her partner, filmmaker Noah Baumbach, the film uses the sets and outfits that have makes the brand successful.

We still don’t know exactly what the story will be, but it’s about a Barbie doll deemed not “perfect” enough who goes on an adventure in the real world. A meta film which, like the director’s previous works, should convey a feminist message.
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, dyed platinum blonde for the occasion, will be surrounded by Will Ferrell, who plays the Director of a large toy company (who can easily be linked to Mattel), America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Michael Cera, Issa Rae (Insecure), Saoirse Ronan, Hari Nef, Rhea Perlman, Kate McKinnon, Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) and Ncuti Gatwa.
Co-produced by Mattel Films (which has also launched the production of a film dedicated to Masters of the Universe figurines), Barbie will be released in our dark rooms on July 19, 2023.
