After having played Cleopatra in Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Empire, Marion Cotillard will slip into the dress of the Snow Queen for the French director Lucile Hadzihalilovic, whom she finds 18 years after Innocence.

The Ice Tower takes place in the 1970s. Jeanne, 15, dreams of leaving her childhood orphanage and discovering the world. Fleeing to Paris, she finds refuge in a shed. In the morning, the Snow Queen appears to him, dazzling. The shed turns out to be a studio where a film adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s tale is being shot. Producer Muriel Merlin tells variety : “The power dynamic between this seductive character and the teenage girl mirrors the plot of Frozen, creating a mirror effect.”. She adds that the film “symbolizes the transition to adulthood of a teenager propelled into the adult world while she is still a child“.

The Ice Tower is also expected to feature fairy tale fantasy elements. The producer told the American media that Lucile Hadzihalilovic presented him with a storyboard with a “aesthetic to Georges Méliès“. Filming should start at the beginning of the year in France.

Marion Cotillard will star in Mona Achache’s Little Girl Blue from November 1 and will then appear in Lee, the biopic about photographer Lee Miller, alongside Kate Winslet, Alexander Skarsgård, Andrea Riseborough and Noémie Merlant.
