(Reuters) – Boeing delivered 29 aircraft last month, compared to more than double (64) in March 2023, while its production rate of the 737 MAX was limited by the US Civil Aviation Authority following ‘a series of incidents.
During the first three months of the year, the American group said on Tuesday that it had delivered to its customers a total of 83 aircraft, including 66 737 MAX, compared to 130 aircraft in the first quarter of 2023.
Airbus, its big rival, delivered 142 aircraft in the first quarter of 2024, an increase of 12% compared to the same period of 2023.
The 737 MAX production process is subject to increased inspections by the FAA (Federal Civil Aviation Administration) since the loss of a fuselage part in mid-flight on board a 737 MAX 9 of Alaska Airlines on January 5 and the American regulator capped the production rate of this model at 38 aircraft per month.
Boeing Chief Financial Officer Brian West said last month that the 737 MAX’s monthly production rate was well below 38.
The crisis led Boeing Chief Executive David Calhoun to announce his departure at the end of the year.
