Market: What is the Wall Street holiday schedule in 2024?

(BFM Bourse) – As in 2023, the American markets will experience exceptional closure ten times during the year 2024.

Given the sometimes significant influence of the American markets on the evolution of the prices of their European counterparts, investors must monitor the Wall Street calendar, even if they are focused on French or European stocks. If only for liquidity reasons.

Once again, the New York Stock Exchange will experience more days of closure in 2024 than Paris. It must be said that public holidays across the Atlantic are often set on a Monday, or observed on a Monday if they fall during a weekend. Here are the weekdays on which the American markets will be exceptionally closed this year:

  • Monday January 1st (for the new year)
  • Monday January 15 (commemoration of the birth of Martin Luther King)
  • Monday, February 19 (commemoration of the birth of George Washington)
  • Friday March 29 (Good Friday)
  • Monday May 27 (Memorial Day)
  • Wednesday June 19 (Juneteenth – day commemorating the end of slavery)
  • Thursday July 4 (national holiday)
  • Monday September 2 (Labor Day)
  • Thursday, November 28 (Thanksgiving)
  • Wednesday December 25 (Christmas celebration)

The doors of the American market remain open on October 9, but as this date corresponds to a public holiday for the rest of the economy (Columbus Day), activity on the stock market should be very reduced.

In addition, stock trading on the New York Stock Exchange will only take place for half a session (closing at 1 p.m. local time) on July 3, the eve of the National Day, November 24 (the day after Thanksgiving), as well as as Christmas Eve, December 24.
