Markus Bernsteiner replaces Peter Spuhler as CEO

The profit melts away: the world would be much nicer for Stadler Rail if the franc were weaker. Markus Bernsteiner will soon be able to deal with this as CEO. It is Peter Spuhler’s second attempt to arrange his successor.

Production in Switzerland, here at the headquarters in Bussnang, makes Stadler Rail vulnerable to exchange rate fluctuations.

Stadler Rail is not an industrial company like any other. So it was possible for company boss Peter Spuhler to speak of a “complete success” on Wednesday when he described the operative business in the first half of the year – and almost in the same breath of a “toxic cocktail” that Stadler was “checkmate”. and that “unfortunately, it has now caught up with us”. The rail vehicle manufacturer from Bussnang finds itself a victim of the strong franc.
