Tony Stark’s adversary in “Iron Man 2”, in the guise of Justin Hammer, Sam Rockwell would not be against making his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to the film “Thunderbolts”, which will bring together some villains and anti-heroes.
Announced last June, Thunderbolts is taking shape! For the past few days and the D23 panel, this gathering of super-villains and anti-heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expected on July 24, 2024 in our theaters, officially has a team.
And it will be made up of: Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), John Walker / US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) . Six characters to which will be added Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), who should be responsible for assembling this equivalent of DC’s Suicide Squad.
It is not yet known who will be their opponent in the film directed by Jake Schreier (Robot and Frank, The Hidden Face of Margo), nor if other known faces will be in the game. But a former villain of the MCU has already expressed his interest: present in the casting of Iron Man 2, where he played the expansive Justin Hammer, ersatz of Tony Stark, Sam Rockwell is not against a return.
“Yes, totally, it would suit me well“, replied the actor to ThePlaylistwho interviewed him as part of the release of the detective comedy Coup de théâtre. “[Thunderbolts] looks cool… [Justin Hammer] is funny, he’s a real Lex Luthor.” It remains to be seen whether this call from the foot will be well received. Because the question is posed point blank, unrelated to any rumor of the return of Sam Rockwell.
For the moment, the will is unilateral, and many of these declarations remain a dead letter. But there would be room for Justin Hammer to return and fully express his potential, which we only got too little glimpse of in 2010’s Iron Man 2.
