Marvel: what is Thanos’ sword? The director of Avengers Endgame gives the answer!

What material is the fearsome sword of Thanos, the great villain of Marvel, made of and what is its origin? Christopher Markus and Joe Russo, respectively screenwriter and director of “Avengers: Endgame”, have delivered an initial response.

With his Infinity Gauntlet, he is arguably the greatest villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We are obviously talking here about Thanos, the formidable bad-guy of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, capable in a simple snap of the fingers of making half the population of the universe disappear.

If the Infinity Gauntlet is Thanos’ major weapon, we must not forget his impressive double-sword either. What material is the latter made of, which broke Captain America’s vibranium shield? And what is its origin? To these questions, Christopher Markus and Joe Russo, respectively screenwriter and director of Avengers: Endgame, have provided the beginning of an answer.

“While vibranium is the most powerful substance on Earth, what Thanos’ sharp sword is made of is even more so.”, says Christopher Markus, a bit mysterious, in the audio commentary of Avengers: Endgame. And Joe Russo to add that “Clearly Thanos knew Eitri.”

It will be understood, if the material of the weapon remains unknown, its origin seems more obvious: it would be Eitri, the king of the Dwarves played by Peter Dinklage in Infinity War who, in addition to having designed the hammer and the ax of Thor as well as the Infinity Gauntlet, would therefore have given birth to the frightening sword of Thanos.

At the microphone of the Comicbook siteJoe Russo had discussed the subject in more detail. “It is clear that Thanos is a millennial character who has fought everyone in the universe. He is the greatest, he is the Genghis Khan of the universe, who has the greatest weapon”he says. “He knows Eitri, he went to see him for the creation of his Glove. Did the Dwarves also create his sword? It’s a possibility. But it’s interesting to see that this weapon is able to destroy the shield of Captain America.”
