Marvel’s Spider-Man multiplayer leaked, it was extremely promising

Marvel’s Spider-Man could have had a multiplayer game, but that’s all over. However, the project was absolutely Dantean if we are to believe this new leak.

Some time ago, everyone remembers, Insomniac Games was the victim of a huge hack. A massive hack, which revealed a crazy amount of information about the studio, its projects, and even personal data. Unfortunately, it was not the first time that a studio of this caliber had been attacked in this way. Rockstar, with GTA 6, Capcom and even Ubisoft have all already suffered similar hacks in recent years, revealing their plans and numerous sensitive data in the process. Serious cases which, with the Insomniac affair, ended up bringing down the community and the entire industry. The straw that broke the camel’s back. Despite everything, some information cannot be kept quiet, but it may not be shown, which will be the case here, as we said at the time.

A multiplayer Marvel’s Spider-Man we’ll never see

And this information concerns a certain Spider-Man and more precisely a multiplayer adventure. Remember, shortly after the hacking affair, Jason Shreier, a renowned Bloomberg journalist, told us that files mentioned an aborted multiplayer game in the Spider-Man universe. A title designed as a service game and developed by Insomniac Games. The game, like many others, was part of this multitude of GAAS launched by Sony with the aim of establishing itself on the market, like the game The Last of Us Factions.

But like the latter, the project was stopped during development. A decision that has nothing to do with the hack, which occurred later. On the other hand, the latter recently revealed a multitude of details relayed by the Insider Gaming site. No video here, it’s by choice, but it’s impossible to miss the information since, let’s face it, we certainly missed out on an excellent multiplayer game.

A game that clearly sold dreams

However, what it is possible to see is very thin, a simple trailer ultimately and a zest of gameplay, but it looked quite impressive. This multiplayer Marvel’s Spider-Man, subtitled “The Great Web”, should have given us the opportunity to embody the Spideys of different universes like what we can see in the excellent animated films Spider-Man New Generation And Across the Spider-Verse. Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man of the future, Miles Morales or even the original Spidey… the whole gang had to be present and playable for up to 4 or 5 players at first glance.

The multiverse was at the center of the plot with not only a realistic New York as we know it in the latest Spider-Man games, but also alternative versions, including a “comics” with cel shading artistic direction. Of the nicest effect. It was therefore a question of travel across universes and unity between the Spideys. From what good old Miles says in the trailer, it was about facing the famous Sinister Six, but not only that. An army of villains such as Venom, Octopus, Mysterio and even the Vulture were to be there. We could also have found some elements that appeared in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 such as the wingsuit or even some antics in combat such as parkour.

It was about the multiverse like in ©Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse

Insomniac Games, the last real superheroes

A game which therefore promised to be particularly solid and interesting, but which we will probably never see. The project is, for now, buried forever. It’s a shame since Insomniac was touching on something quite huge on paper. A rich license, an already extensive universe just waiting to be developed, all coupled with the incredible talent of the studio, this could clearly have given a super enjoyable multiplayer experience to do with weaving friends.

This is all the more true since at the moment, our poor superheroes are getting very expensive, and Insomniac is a bit of a last bastion. Lately, it’s clearly not Marvel’s Avengers (a disaster), Gotham Knights (a disaster) nor The Suicide Squad (a clumsiness that no one wants to give a chance to) that will manage to sell us superheroes as we want them to. see. Marvel’s Spider-Man is therefore a special case, a franchise in good hands and we are already looking forward to seeing what happens next, alone or accompanied.
