25 years ago, Matthew McConaughey fought as an idealistic lawyer in the court thriller "The Jury". Soon he should do it again.

Long before actor Matthew McConaughey (51) made a name for himself as an actor in romantic comedies, he played the lead role in 1996 in the haunting court thriller "The Jury", based on the book of the same name by John Grisham (66). And it is precisely this role of the idealistic lawyer Jake Brigance, which McConaughey first brought into the focus of the dream factory, will soon be played again by today's Oscar winner. At least that's what the US site "Variety" reports.

A series adaptation of Grisham's "Die Jury" sequel is currently being planned, which was only released last year under the English title "A Time for Mercy" and in which Brigance is again the main protagonist. According to the report, the series will consist of eight to ten episodes, US broadcaster HBO is therefore in the final talks for McConaughey's return.

First signs

The highly acclaimed first season of the crime series "True Detective" from 2014 proved that HBO and McConaughey work well together. And the 51-year-old Texan may have already indicated that he will fight for justice again as Jake Brigance's lawyer. Because already in September 2020 he had uploaded a picture of himself on Instagram, on which he was browsing "A Time for Mercy" with great concentration. Maybe already the first preparations for his court comeback?
