A liter of unleaded 95 petrol currently costs around 2.30 francs on average in Switzerland. That is over 50 centimes more than in January. Heating oil has become more than 60 percent more expensive since the beginning of the year. Judging by the rhetoric on the federal Bernese political stage, the state should serve the citizens as a free insurer against inflation surges: calls for “relief” for households and companies can be heard from left to right.
